About Mongo World

In this age of ever-increasing disposable consumerism and quarter-hearted recycling, MongoWorld.com is built to cast some light onto the earth-friendly (and sometimes lucrative!) acts of trash picking, dumpster diving, and cast-off collecting.

Although digging through other people's trash is illegal in a vast number of localities, there's no shame in taking what other people don't want. It's just that you have to get there before anyone else does or before the sanitation trucks come and haul it all away.

Even people who would never deign to climb into a dumpster have taken a piece of discarded furniture from a neighbor's curb-side trash. In my own little suburban world I have several acquaintances, friends, and family members who routinely scour the streets and dump sites for perfectly serviceable items. There's someone in your neighborhood. If you live in a city, they're all around you. Some of the things for auction on eBay were found in other people's "garbage."
